Course Objectives:
Taking advantage of the latest research in anatomy, kinesiology and neuroscience, The Franklin Method for Nurses explores the science behind how your thoughts and images affect the way your body moves and aligns itself.
Upon completion of this course you will be able to:
- Describe the relationship between mental imagery, movement and posture.
- Use mental imagery applications to describe the osteokinematics, arthrokinematics and bone rhythms of a variety of movements.
- Use fun movement and imagery exercises to experience the functional design of the bones, muscles, ligaments and tendons of the spine, shoulder girdle, pelvis, hip joint, knee, and foot.
- Use imagery to help your patients improve their movement patterns and posture for a safe, effective and more enjoyable rehab.
And along the way you’ll learn more about your own body and how to care for it as you perform the rigors of your job. Whether you’re a floor nurse, an orthopedic nurse or any other specialty, you’ll come away with a better understanding of your own body so you can help others use theirs more effectively.
Franklin Method for Nurses
Experience your body in a whole new way
In this unique and entertaining one-day seminar, you will earn 7 contact hours of continuing education credits as approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (CEP #15473).
You will come to appreciate the body’s masterpiece of design in a new and exciting way. Based on the Franklin Method you will learn to use imagery and movement exercises to simplify and deepen your understanding of the hundreds of bones, muscles, joints, discs and ligaments that make up the spine, shoulder, pelvis, hip joint, knee and foot. Using experiential anatomy you will come to understand the evolution, structure and function of the body in a brand new and exciting way. And best of all you’ll have more fun doing it than you ever thought possible.

- A brief discussion of the study of imagery and movement, followed by some fun imagery exercises to get your creative juices flowing.
- You’ll learn imagery and movement exercises to experience the design, structure and functions of the pelvis.
- A discussion of the evolution of the spine will be followed by simple movement exercises to experience its remarkable design and function.
- Experience the specialized function of the atlas and axis (C1, C2) and how they support the cranium; and learn how intervertebral discs do their job.
- Imagery and movement exercises to experience the design, structure and functions of the shoulder joint (clavicle, humerus and scapula and the glenohumeral rhythm)
- Imagery and movement exercises to experience the design, structure and functions of the knee joint (femoral condyles, tibial plateau, patella, ACL, PCL, collateral ligaments and meniscus).
- Imagery and movement exercises to experience the evolution, design, structure and functions of the feet.

“Dynamic Alignment Through Imagery” by Eric Franklin
Destined to become a classic text and reference, Dynamic Alignment Through Imagery shows you how to use imaging techniques to improve posture and alignment and release excess tension. The book’s 195 illustrations will help you visualize the images and exercises and show you how to use them in a variety of contexts.
Dynamic Alignment Through Imagery discusses the origins and uses of imagery, explains the biomechanical and anatomical principles behind complex imagery, and provides anatomical imagery exercises to help you fine-tune alignments and increase body awareness.
“Pelvic Power” by Eric Franklin
Combining scientific principles with movement and imagery exercises that are both effective and fun, this book demonstrates how to create a stronger body by toning the pelvic floor. Focusing on the biomechanics of the pelvic floor, this guide shows how the pelvic floor plays an important role in almost all movements, balance, and body posture.
“Relax Your Neck, Liberate Your Shoulders” by Eric Franklin
A foolproof guide to releasing shoulder and neck tension, this book shows how imagery and touch can be used to eliminate stiffness and pain. An explanation of the anatomy of the shoulders provides a better understanding of how improving the alignment of the head, neck, and shoulders will ease the strain on muscles and joints and promote an aura of confidence and health.
"General Anatomy and the Musculoskeletal System (THIEME Atlas of Anatomy)"
The THIEME Atlas of Anatomy is a revolution in the presentation of human anatomy. It combines topographical views of different body regions, in stunning detail and unprecedented clarity, with the more classical portrayals of isolated systems, in which the bony structure, vasculature, muscles, and nerves are assembled for the reader in a step-by-step logical sequence. Schematics highlight specific structures and depict their coordination in functional units. Throughout the book we have included hundreds of clinical correlations to provide an integrated presentation of structure, function, and malfunction that will serve the needs of students and practitioners alike.
"I found the Franklin Method to be a fascinating take on anatomy. I learned the nuts and bolts of Anatomy and Physiology, but never recognized all the applications until these classes. I use this information to position my patients during surgery and I teach it to my students in fitness classes. There are endless applications. You might think you KNOW anatomy…but the Franklin Method shows you how much was hidden!"
